Welcome to our new Web!

I hope you like the look and, more importantly, the additional functionality that will see on-going improvement.  I would also like to wish your horse(s) a happy birthday!

The way the web site presents at this point is already a quantum leap forward from the old set-up. Our web is now database-driven with a capable content management system (if you know what that is ...) and an easy-to-use on-line editor that basically works like Microsoft Word.  You can already do some searches and more will be enabled shortly.

Many other functions are active and useable right now.  This newsletter was produced on the web, for example. There are automatic links including to some results, horses and riders, and search options will increase soon. The link with our national database will provide a number of features that have so far not been available.  This link has shown that more “clean-up” work is still required on the data but we did not want to delay the launch.  The horse’s birthday seemed the most appropriate occasion.

We will offer sub-webs of this web site to our State Branches and to our affiliated Equestrian clubs at a nominal cost.  With the addition of their event calendars, photos to the image library and other content, it will become THE reference site for Equestrian sport in Australia.  Soon after Branches have moved to their section of this web, members will be able to join, renew memberships and update their own contact details on-line while connected to our database.

I have included a couple of the most recent news items, rather than writing them up separately. The National Board will meet next Sunday. You will be able to download a summary of business conducted within a week or two afterwards.  I should, however, mention that you can see what 'national' events are on by looking up Events > Calendar for the next month and later. This includes the BIG event of the year, the FEI Regional Dressage Forum in Sydney, straight after the National Dressage Championships in October.

We are still waiting for a report from our Young Jumping Riders who went to South Africa to compete in the Children and Junior Classique but you can see a report on http://www.jumpingaround.com/home.html .

On the Eventing side, you should know that Olivia Bunn and GV Top of the Line will be leaving Australia on Monday to compete with four other Aussies in the FEI World Cup Eventing Final at Malmö (SWE).  And we are still accepting applications from Eventing riders to join the Australian Talent Search Squad.

I have already mentioned the European Dressage Championships (see also below) but can add that Ulla Salzgeber will be visiting again in late August to give another high performance clinic.

And Show Horse had a National Meeting last weekend and is looking forward with excitement to the Inaugural International Showman of the Year Competition in Great Britain in mid-August, in which four Australian riders will take part.

One last thing: On Monday night, 01 August 2005, the Australian Horse Industry Council will launch the Horse Emergency Database at an educational evening at Castle Hill Showground organised by the Australian Society of Animal Production. Athens Eventing rider Rebel Morrow will be one of the speakers.

I can't close the newsletter without mentioning our sponsors and supporters.
Australian Sports Commission
Australian Olympic Committee
Horseland
Aon Risk Services
Ridley Agriproducts and Kentucky Equine Research
and many others, especially our event sponsors.
We are very grateful for the funding and support we have been receiving.
