The numbers you need aren’t in one place
Ask five horse people how much bedding a stall needs, how a feed ration should split between forage and concentrate, or roughly how old a horse is in human years, and you’ll get five different answers — one from a feed bag label, one from a barn-aisle conversation, one from a book that’s older than the horse. None of them are wrong exactly. None of them are built around your horse, your stall, or your bale, either.
EFA National puts six of those everyday calculations in one place, worked out from the numbers you actually have, rather than a rule of thumb someone else generalized from their own horse.
What the tools actually do
The Horse Weight Calculator uses the standard heart-girth-and-body-length tape method to estimate bodyweight in kilograms and pounds — the same measurement used to judge a wormer dose or track condition over a season. The Feed Ration Calculatortakes that bodyweight and splits a daily ration into forage and concentrate as a percentage of it, so you can check you’re feeding enough fibre before you start weighing out grain.
The Horse Age Converterconverts a horse’s age into an approximate human-years equivalent, reflecting how fast horses mature in their first five years and how steadily they age after that. If you’re planning around a mare, the Gestation Due Date Calculator projects a foaling date from the breeding date using the average 340-day equine gestation, with the option to set a different length if you have one on record.
The other two tools are about running a barn rather than running a horse. The Hay Cost Calculator turns bales-per-day and cost-per-bale into a daily, monthly, and annual figure, so a hay habit becomes a line in a budget instead of a surprise at the feed store. The Stall Bedding Calculator works out how many bags of bedding a stall needs from its length, width, and target depth, rounded up to whole bags, as a quick shopping guide before you re-bed.
