Healthy Treats for Horses

When it comes to horse treats, not all are created equal. Often, they can be high in sugar and additives like preservatives. We all know that their regular diet of hay, oats and grain is essential for good equine health. But there’s nothing wrong with treating your horse every once in a while. In fact there are many healthy treats on the market that are safe for horses and provide essential vitamins and minerals that help keep your horse healthy and happy. It’s always important to read the ingredients label on any treat you give to your horse so you know what you’re feeding them. You also want to make sure that the treat will fit into your horse’s daily diet so they get everything they need without overdoing it or missing out on something important. Your equine friend deserves only the best!

It’s also important to remember not all horses have the same dietary needs. Some may require more protein than others depending on how active they are or age/breed differences etcetera so make sure you understand what your own specific animal requires before giving them any kind of food item as this could affect their health if given too much/too little nutrition than necessary–even something as simple & seemingly harmless like treats!

Horse Fun Facts

You might be surprised to learn that there are over 350 breeds of horses and ponies registered today, with more being developed all the time. The vast majority of these are used for leisure activities like riding, racing, showing, or competitions such as dressage. Others, like the Peruvian Paso Horse or the Icelandic Horse can be found working on farms around the world. Horses have been domesticated for at least 5000 years and have a lot of history and culture associated with them. While not all horses get to live their lives in places where they’re celebrated by people who love them (unfortunately), those that do live an average lifespan of 25 years!

You can treat your horse and keep them healthy too!

There are many ways to show your horse that you care, but nothing says “I love you” like a delicious treat. Whether they’ve just achieved a new milestone or you just want to share a snack with your furry friend, treats can be an excellent way to bond with your horse. However, as responsible pet owners, we need to ensure that the treats we give our equines don’t make them sick!

Here are some of my top tips for feeding your horse healthy snacks:

  • Choose the right snacks. Treats should not exceed 10 percent of a horse’s total feed intake for the day. Many foods that humans consider safe for consumption are actually quite toxic and potentially lethal for horses (for example: chocolate and avocados). Offer your horse healthy alternatives such as chopped-up fruits and lightly salted vegetables or commercial “treats” made specifically for horses.
  • Store food safely. Make sure any food or treats are stored in places where they will not attract pests or fall into disrepair from exposure to weather elements. Keep foods in labeled containers on shelves out of reach from curious pets and children, who might mistake these items as intended for them instead of the horses! In addition to this, always wash your hands after handling food items—even if they were intended only for equine consumption! This will help prevent cross-contamination between animals and humans alike!
