Choose A Helmet That Meets Safety Standards

When buying any type of helmet, it is important to consider the safety standards that your helmet must meet. The reason for this is because there are different types of helmets on the market, and some helmets are safer than others.

For example, if you were looking for a bicycle helmet for yourself or your child and saw one that said it met safety standards but did not say what those standards were, would you trust it? Probably not! This is why it’s so important to choose a helmet that meets specific safety standards when buying a riding helmet for your horse.

Many riding helmets do not meet any specific safety standard at all but they may still be safe enough to protect against concussions (and other injuries) if used correctly. However, the lack of an approved standard means there is no way to know how well these products will protect riders during falls or accidents.

Try The Helmet On

  • Try on the helmet before you buy it. When buying a helmet, whether it’s custom-made or off the shelf, it’s important to try it on first and make sure you like how it fits. If you’re going to be riding in any kind of competition that involves headgear such as polo or eventing then your helmet should have plenty of adjustment mechanisms so that it can be adjusted for comfort and safety.

Have Your Head Size Measured

Take Measurements Of Your Head Yourself

  • To measure your head, you will need a measuring tape.
  • The first thing to do is find the circumference of your head by wrapping the measuring tape around it at the widest point and marking where it ends.
  • Then, move down an inch or so and mark again. You should have two marks on your head now that indicate where one inch apart is located on each side of the widest part of your skull (and hence how long it is).
  • Next, hold another measuring tape along this same spot to find how wide your skull is at its widest point–just like before, make two marks: one at one end and one at another end. Now you know how long and wide your cranium is!

Check To Make Sure The Helmet Is A Good Fit

Once you have the right size, it’s time to make sure that your helmet is a good fit. The most important part of this step is making sure that the helmet sits level on top of your head. If it tilts forward or backward at all, or if it seems to move around as you move your head around, then something has gone wrong in this process and you should stop what you’re doing and find out why.

The second thing to check for is whether or not the helmet feels snug at first but still compresses down when pressure is applied. This means that there are enough straps in place and they’re tight enough so that the padding inside compresses with pressure instead of moving away from where it needs to be in an accident scenario (which would cause more damage than necessary).

A third thing worth checking for is weight distribution; some helmets are balanced well, while others tilt toward one side of the head due to poor construction techniques or bad design choices by whoever made them (or both). A tilted-forward/backward feeling can also be an indication here – if so then maybe try another brand next time since there may be better quality ones available elsewhere!

Safety should be a major concern when you are buying a new helmet.

  • Safety should be a major concern when you are buying a new helmet. When choosing a helmet, make sure it meets the safety standards set by the Equestrian Federation.
  • Always buy a helmet that fits your head size correctly. To measure the right fit for your head, wrap an elastic tape around your head where the helmet will sit and then measure that length against our size charts below (measurements are in inches).
