Make sure your blog is not only interesting to you, but also interesting to others.
Having a blog that is centered around topics that you are interested in and knowledgeable about is a great way to ensure the quality of your blog’s content, but you also need to make sure that you are writing about things that other people will be interested in reading.
Think about what your audience wants. If your audience is made up of people who like music, write about music.
If your audience is made up of people who like food, write about food.
If your audience is made up of people who like jokes, write funny jokes on your blog.
Share your blog on every social media channel.
Now that you’re settled in and have an idea of what you want to write about, it’s time to get the word out! Post about your blog on every social media channel you use. Hashtag everything. Tweet links to new blog posts. Share content on Instagram and tag it appropriately. Link back to blog posts frequently on Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn…if it’s a website where you have a profile, show off your work! I love sharing my favorite blog posts on Tumblr using GIFs or photos from the post itself.
Embrace hashtags, but don’t go overboard. There are times when a cute play-on-words hashtag is appropriate (such as #dearblogger) but other times it just doesn’t make sense (“#whatIknowaboutrunningablogthatisdifferentfromwhatmymomknowsaboutrunningablog”). It’s okay for places like Twitter and Instagram where space is tight, but it can be overkill elsewhere.
There are a few more rules of thumb when it comes to getting yourself out there: Don’t overshare; don’t be annoying; keep things simple!
Engage with other bloggers.
Engaging with other bloggers is easy and can be done in a variety of ways. Some of the more common methods include:
- Reading and commenting on their blogs.
- Sharing their posts with your followers.
- Following them on various social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
- Requesting interviews to be included in your blog.
- Meeting up with them in person to have a conversation about blogging dynamics and sharing opinions.
Do not be too pushy.
To avoid this issue, I think it is best to not put too much pressure on the reader. Sure, post up a link or two to something you’re selling, but if the audience really likes what you have to offer, they will come to you! There’s no need to ram your product down people’s throats.
I also like to follow a specific rule when it comes to posting: don’t post too much! If people see me pop up on their feeds every day with an ad for my products, chances are they will get tired of seeing me and block my content.
If you are going to be a blogger you should have a good product, otherwise you will have no followers.
Constructing a blog is an art. You have to convince people that your content is good enough to read, but also make sure that your delivery style is one people find endearing. It’s not an easy task.
To get followers, you need a good product. A good product is something that people actually want to read and share with friends and family. If you write something that isn’t worth reading, it probably won’t be shared around. In fact, it may even bring shame upon the person who first tried to read it (yourself). So if you want to be a successful blogger, writing entertaining or useful content should be at the top of your list!
Think about the audience you are writing for and write for them, include content that is helpful or relevant to your audience.
You should always be thinking about the audience that you are writing for. You should make sure that you are providing them with content that is helpful and relevant to them. When considering your audience, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- What will they want to read?
- How can I help them?
- This is not a selfish question. It’s really important to consider how you can help your readers! Providing quality content that helps people is what will allow your blog to become successful.
- Provide real value for people so they will enjoy reading your blog, tell their friends about it, and return again soon! It can take time but if you think about what would be valuable to your readers, then over time it becomes easier because you have an idea of what they like and why they’re following you
Never give up! If something is not working try something else and keep trying.
In this blog about how to run a successful and entertaining blog, I talk about what I know about running a blog that is different from what my Mom knows about running a blog. One of the things we differ on is the idea of giving up too easily. It’s important to never give up. If at first you don’t succeed, try again! Success is not always immediate. Even if it doesn’t work out for you now, you can always try something else later, or even tweak the thing that wasn’t working before. Try to learn from your mistakes and keep trying!
If you are starting a blog remember to have fun and be yourself!
For my readers, I recommend having fun with your posts. There is no reason to take yourself too seriously, and you’ll engage your readers more if they can see that you’re not just trying to sound intelligent or important. People who blog know that it’s not a science—there is no “right” way to start or maintain one. You are the expert on what you know best, so write about that and be yourself!
If you are starting a blog remember to have fun and be yourself! Having a blog should not be stressful and with these tips in mind it hopefully will not be for you.
