Rest.

Everyone knows the appeal of a hot new TV show, or the crush they have on a celebrity—but you know what else is attractive? Long, uninterrupted stretches of shut-eye. It’s kind of like a superpower—the ability to wake up refreshed and alert every single morning. Because you deserve it.

But how do you get into that habit? How do you make your body more likely to fall asleep when it wants to stay awake, and then wake up refreshed… no matter what time it is? I’ve got some tips for ya.

Hydrate.

Finally, it’s time to hydrate. Drinking plenty of water is a crucial step in achieving the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed look we all desire. An easy way to figure out how much you should be drinking is by taking your body weight (in pounds) and dividing it by half—the result is the approximate number of ounces you should be consuming daily. If you notice yourself frequently feeling thirsty or getting headaches, it could mean your body is lacking in water and needs more. If you find yourself struggling to drink enough, try setting small goals for yourself or keeping a water bottle on hand at all times. That way, when an hour passes and it’s empty, you’ll know that you’ve reached your goal and can refill it for another round!

Keeping a humidifier in your home can also help keep things hydrated. Many people who suffer from dry skin or nasal congestion realize that increasing the humidity levels in their homes actually helps them breathe easier as well as preventing skin from drying out throughout the day.

Conceal.

Second, conceal. Concealers are a great way to cover up blemishes and dark circles. You can buy them in a variety of shades to match your skin tone (or to create some cool art in the form of makeup if that’s your thing). They also come in many different forms – liquid, stick or powder – so you can choose the one that best works with your skin type. If you have dry skin, try using a concealer stick instead of a liquid one. It will look less cakey and more natural on top of moisturized skin!

Conceal and brighten under the eyes.

A good concealer can be an effective tool in the fight against looking perpetually exhausted. If you don’t have a concealer on hand, look for one that is one to two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. Using a lighter shade will help brighten the area, disguising dark circles and adding light to under-eye areas that tend to look sunken in when tired. Use a brush or sponge to blend the concealer into the skin.

Use the right concealer to cover dark circles, redness, and blemishes.

It’s important to choose the right concealer. For best results, you should use a concealer that matches your skin color and has a creamy consistency. This is because a concealer will naturally oxidize slightly, so it’s best to choose one that matches your skin already when you apply it, rather than worrying about accounting for any changes in color. A cream concealer also allows for easy blending with your foundation or other makeup products you might use later on in your makeup routine.

Use a creamy concealer if your skin is dry.

If you have dry skin, a creamier concealer will actually cling to your skin better. This is because dry skin has more texture and tends to be thirsty for more moisture.

Another option is to use a stick concealer instead of liquid if your skin type is oily. Stick concealers tend not to crease as much and set into the pores in the same way that liquid concealers can.

Lastly, consider using a pearl-colored (or white) concealer on the inner corners of your eyes or under your brow bones to brighten up these areas.

Use a stick concealer if your skin is oily.

If you have oily skin, stick concealers are a great option for you. When applied, they give the appearance of not even being there! Stick concealers are typically oil-free and absorb into the skin without making it look greasy or caked on. They’re also ideal for covering blemishes and other skin issues.

Stick concealers usually come in shades that will match your skin tone. There’s a wide selection to choose from, so you can be sure to find one that will blend right in with your face.

Use a pearl-colored concealer on the inner corners of your eyes to brighten the whole area.

Using concealer can help make you look less tired. Use a concealer that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone to achieve this, and be sure to blend it well so that the natural skin shows through. Because of its ability to hide dark circles and blemishes, using it under the eyes can erase the signs of fatigue, but depending on your skin type, you may need to use different types of concealers:

  • use a creamy one if your skin is dry
  • use a stick-based one if your skin is oily
  • if you want to brighten up the whole eye area, try applying pearl-colored concealer on the inner corners of your eyes

These tips will help you look less tired in no time!

Brighten the undereye area by using a concealer two shades lighter than your natural skin tone (and blend, blend, blend).

A *highlighter* is the key to brightening your undereye area. Use a shade that is two shades lighter than your natural skin tone, and blend it with a brush or your fingers. Be sure to blend, blend, blend into your skin until there are no harsh lines between where the concealer ends and your cheek begins.

At long last, you have learned how to not look so tired all the time. You’re welcome!

Using these tips will help you look less tired all the time!

  • Give your skin a break. If your face is always covered with makeup, you’re likely going to end up looking tired all the time. Your pores need to breathe, so only put on as much of a base coat as you absolutely need, and try to go barefaced whenever you can abide.
  • Drink loads of water. Being properly hydrated improves everything about your body, including your skin. You should be drinking anywhere from 64-80 ounces of water each day (more if you live in a warm climate or exercise regularly). If that amount sounds daunting, buy yourself an infuser bottle and add fresh fruit like strawberries or oranges to give it a little kick!
  • Use concealer for dark circles and redness. For more coverage than tinted moisturizer provides, use concealer on the under-eye area and over any blemishes already covered by foundation or powder (it can do double duty!). Blend your concealer with a damp sponge or brush until it’s smooth but not cakey—you don’t want to look like you have something to hide! You may also want to use a lighter shade than what you used for foundation—the inner corners of the eyes are quite dark naturally, so using something too dark may draw even more attention there!
